Brian started with Nelson Wood Shims in 2007, working in both sales and accounting. He was promoted to CFO in 2017 and stepped into the role of President & CEO in 2022. Brian has been instrumental in the company’s growth and development throughout his career. He was a key figure in transitioning the business to a 100% ESOP in 2019. When Brian is not working, he can be found coaching, volunteering in the community, and spending as much time as possible with his family.

Jenni Johnson

Chief Financial Officer

Jenni joined Nelson Wood Shims in 2017 and serves as the CFO, overseeing accounting, financial planning, and reporting. She enjoys collaborating across departments to provide insights and improve systems. Jenni values working for a company that cares for its employees and fosters teamwork, integrity, and continuous improvement. Outside of work, she enjoys being active and spending quality time with her loved ones, including cheering on her two boys at their sports activities.

Michael Hake

Director of Sales

Michael has over a decade of experience and holds a Business Management degree from St. Scholastica. He transitioned from a career in construction to join us. Originally from Brainerd, he moved here in 2007 and has been a key part of our community. He has advanced from Sales Representative to Sales Manager and now serves as our Director of Sales, showcasing his dedication to both professional growth and our company.

Lisa Wohlsdorf

Human Resources Manager

Lisa joined Nelson Wood Shims in 2015 and stepped into the role of Human Resource Manager in 2020. Committed to upholding the company's culture and values, she thrives in an environment where growth and development are encouraged. At Nelson Wood Shims, Lisa focuses on improving processes, ensuring compliance with laws, and making sure everyone feels appreciated. She is passionate about contributing to and upholding the company’s mission and values. Outside of work, you can find Lisa enjoying outdoor activities and spending quality time with her family.

Scott Berg

Scott Berg joined Nelson Wood Shims as a student in 1992, working on production lines. A native of Cohasset, he earned an Electrical Maintenance degree from Hibbing Community College. With 32 years of experience, Scott has excelled in process control, dust collection, safety, and automation, holding roles such as Lead Electrician, Maintenance Manager, and Plant Manager. His dedication to the company and its people drives his commitment to fostering growth and success.

Ryan Still

Senior Vice President of Purchasing

Ryan has been with Nelson Wood Shims since 1986, currently serving as Senior Vice President of Purchasing and a board member. He oversees the procurement of logs, lumber, and packaging while prioritizing safety and a positive company culture. Ryan also dedicated 20 years to the Cohasset Fire Department, demonstrating his commitment to community service. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor activities like cabin stays, hunting, and fishing.

Corey Smith

Senior Financial Analyst

As a Senior Financial Analyst at Nelson Wood Shims with over 15 years of experience, Corey focuses on leading effectively and making a meaningful impact through resource management and collaboration. His goal is to support team growth and success in line with the company's mission. Fun fact: his first pet was a mud turtle named “Rooster,” which taught him early on the value of making a positive impact.

Chuck Scherer

Vice President

As Vice President, Chuck brings 42 years of experience in the wood industry. Throughout his career, he has worked as a laborer, supervisor, production manager, sales manager, president, and small business owner. Chuck is a proud husband of 36 years, father of three sons, grandfather, and servant leader. He generously gives his time to the church, the community, and para-ministries. Outside of work, Chuck enjoys hunting, camping, and spending time with his family.
